Jewel’s Eye-View: A Series

Hello, friends!

Per the request of my dearest husband, Mike, I will be updating the blog frequently through a series of posts highlighting our life together so far. Topics will include our daring canoe trips, my ventures in the kitchen,  successful, and not-so-successful crafting ideas, and more!

I hope you will enjoy what we’ve got coming for you. We hope it will be a treat for you as much as it has been for us.

Cheers!

First December

This is the first December of our marriage, and today marks our 6 month anniversary. Hooray!

As it has been a wintery day here in Jackson, with snow and arctic wind chills(!!) included, Mike and I have been more than our normal “home-bodies.” I’d rather be at home with Mike than anywhere else without him.

Happy six months, Mike. I love you!

Happy Heart.

Jewel here.

As I hang out in the kitchen tonight, preparing supper and listening to my Christmas iTunes playlist, Mike is in the study working on a book response. I am so thankful for how hard he works and how diligent he is to provide for us. I am thankful to be his wife, and the Lord has been so gracious to grow my love for him everyday. What a sweet, sweet blessing!

I love you, Mike!

How to cut down your first Christmas tree

This morning, Jewel and I set out on an adventure to find THE tree.  The tree that will mark our first Christmas together.  So here is our guide to accomplishing this goal:

  1. Smile.
  2. Select your tools. These are important.  Poor tool choice results in frustration and more work.
  3. Then select your tree.
  4. Now, begin your first cuts.  This requires precision, moderate-athleticism, and a good eye.
  5. I used a pipe-clamp to break off the tree after severing the tree all around.
  6. Lay down your tree on a tarp.  A 5′x7′ tarp was sufficient for the size of our tree.  This enables you to wrap the tree for transportation, and protect it from losing needles in your car.
  7. Trim the lower branches to fit your tree-stand.
  8. Stand it up. I recommend leaving it wrapped until the tree is firmly rested in its stand.
  9. Light it up.  This requires help from another companion.  Thank you Jewel.

We hope this helps you in your process of tree-selection and cutting this year.  Our hope is that our tree lasts another month ’til Christmas.  More pictures are on their way of the finished product.

Merry Christmas!

Season of Advent

Growing up, my (Mike’s) family celebrated the season of advent every Christmas. We anticipated the celebration of the coming of Christ. The prophet Isaiah, Micah, Luke, and Matthew wrote about these things. Without Christ, we have no hope. The coming of Christ to earth to live a perfect life, die on a cross for the sins of his people, and rise again on the third day as our hope of eternal life under his kingship and rule are celebrated in the coming of Christ–His advent as the God-Man. Today, we know that our Savior is seated at the right hand of God, interceding on our behalf, with a promise to come again to reign with his people. That will be his second advent.

I have composed this reading calendar for this season as a preparation for the celebration of Christmas. My hope is that it points to Christ and His righteousness alone to save us from our sins. Jewel and I would love to invite you to join us in our reading this season, and if you are a guest in our home, you can expect to read along with us.

Blessings in the name of Christ our LORD, the Son, Jesus.

My wife is too cute

As I sit in my study reading a terrible book with the intention of writing a book review on it, I can hear Jewel singing and dancing to "Rockin’ Robin" from the kitchen as she bakes fresh pear bread and "Good Cookies." I am so glad I married her and she brings me so much joy.

I love you Jewel.
